The Minimalist Home – Joshua Becker

The Minimalist Home is written by popular minimalism blogger Joshua Becker.  I started watching videos of Joshua Becker on YouTube and his lectures on minimalism quite fascinated me. Since then, I have been on a minimalist journey. I started donating things like clothes, and books and decluttering the rest. Now I think twice before buying anything. This is my experience. The Less stuff we gather the more time we get for ourselves. I invest my time in reading and learning new skills. I do not have to think much about what to wear before going to any party as the choices are limited. Also maintaining the closet has become easy now.

The author says, “In our overcrowded homes today, most possessions are not truly “belongings.” They are only distracting us from the things that do belong.”

The book is a step-by-step guide to arranging your belongings. Joshua Becker goes room by room to streamline all the stuff you have. The book also has inspiring stories of people who practiced minimalism and experienced a change in their lives. He says, “Minimalism isn’t about taking something away from you. It’s about giving you something more”.

This book is a perfect example of less is more. It has a lot to offer about minimalism philosophy. You will be surprised to know that an average person spends 3680 hours or 153 days of his/her life searching for misplaced items. Most of these comprise keys, phones, and paperwork.

If you are stepping into minimalism but have no idea where to start, then read this book. Overall, it is a simple and encouraging book on how to simplify your life.

  1. Hi , while the book is perfect in facts the solutions are difficult to adopt. Yes all of us have today huge unwanted inventory , which is much more than required , at home.

What we don’t have is that containment with less , temptation , daring of saying no to children , competition to show off, ability to withstand peer pressure. And on other side fuel all this is easy availability of money , loans, emi etc.

To adhere to remedies for de cluttering one require to overcome all above factors. Concept of minimalistic leaving need to be firmed up first in mind with strong resolve then only can be put in practice.

Nice eye opening reminder. Thanks ashwini.
