Reading Chetan Bhagat’s novels gives you an absolute pleasure of watching a Bollywood masala movie. I have read his previous books like “The 3 mistakes of my life”, “Two states”, “Half Girlfriend, “One night at the call center”, “Revolution 2020”. My favorite amongst them is “Two states”. While reading his books you get a feeling that he is literally telling you a story or you are reading a script of any movie. If you are a fan of Chetan Bhagat then you will certainly enjoy reading “The Girl in Room 105”.
Plot: The story is about an IIT graduate named “Keshav” who is working as a tutor for IIT coaching classes in New Delhi. A few years ago, he had a break up with his girlfriend, Zara. Where Zara moved on in her life Keshav still misses her. He drinks every night and thinks about her, calls her, sends her message and follows her on social media. Zara just ignores him. But one day, on her birthday, Zara sends him a message on whatsapp that she misses him. She calls him in her hostel room 105. Keshav visits her hostel along with his best friend Saurabh and he reaches room 105 just like old times. When he goes inside the room through a window, he gets the fright of his life. The story begins from this point.
What to expect:
Chetan Bhagat is recognized for his modest style of writing. You hardly need any dictionary to read his books and that is his USP. He includes addictive stories with quite relevant plots, comedy and love story in his books. Any novice reader would love to read his books. He is notable for increasing the number of English novel readers in India.
The Girl in Room 105” is a fast paced novel and you will not find any dull moment in the book. The story has a very strong and captivating plot. Unlike Chetan Bhagat’s previous books where romance takes the front seat, in this book you will find romance as a subplot. There is romance and drama but suspense grabs the major attention. The friendship between keshav and Saurabh is beautifully written. I enjoyed reading the comic parts too.
Many things are stereotyped, the protagonist meets the author and tells him his story. We have seen this in his previous books too. Some obscene dialogues are unnecessarily added that sound bit clumsy. Ignoring its crass language in some parts, I can say, the book manages to amuse till the end.
This book again like his previous bestsellers, has a very high entertainment quotient. It’s a quick, easy to read book with just 304 pages and can be easily finished in a day. Just take it as a simple Bollywood style book and do not expect any literary content. If you are looking for pure entertainment without putting your brain in it, then this book is a good option. A nice one time read!
