Panchayat web series review

“Panchayat” is a slow paced yet fresh series narrating the administration of a small village in Uttar Pradesh. No melodrama, just sweet and simple plot! The entertaining story and precise acting of the adept actors will force you to watch all the 8 episodes in one go, that too with your family. You will not find any irrelevant chats, forced humour or loud jokes but what you get is a pure light comedy. The makers of this series have kept the story restrained and realistic, exhibiting the simple dilemmas in rural community. The story has crisp content and catchy dialogues, where actors create humour with serious faces.

Undoubtedly, the series has to be a masterpiece as it has phenomenal actors like Raghuvir Yadav and Neena Gupta in it. What astonishes more is the meticulous performance given by the new generation actors especially Chandan Roy for essaying the role of “Vikas” so brilliantly. His natural acting, way of talking and expressions will make you laugh like anything.

I am a diehard fan of Jitendra Kumar. After watching his performance in Kota Factory I wish, we too had Jitu Bhaiya during our 12th std. Jokes apart, what a wide range in his acting! In “kota factory” where he is the favourite “Jitu Bhaiya” of all kids, teaching Physics, giving motivational lectures and inspiring them to crack JEE successfully, in “Panchayat” there is altogether different angle to his character where he is struggling to crack CAT. The enragement, vulnerability of young Abhishek Tripathi and his hesitant attachment towards the village people, is very well portrayed by Jitendra. His helpless situation in the scene, “gajab bejjati hai yaar” is quite relevant. The guy next door image of Jitendra Kumar reminds me of Amol Palekar movies.

This sweet drama will surely force you to binge watch as it keeps you hooked to the funny incidences happening amongst the villagers. There is no villain in the whole story and at the same time no one is literally best. That’s what real life characters are. We all have various shades of grey in us. Throughout the series you will find satire on social issues and social messages presented in a very light hearted manner. The banner to be pasted on the walls, monitor stealing, wedding, chakke wali kursi and every little thing will tickle you. Do not miss the climax, there is a delightful surprise to watch!

If you belong to the generation of Doordarshan era then definitely you should watch this simple heart-warming series on Amazon prime video. This web series will remind you of shows like Hum Log, Malgudi days, we used to watch on our black and white TVs.  The music is excellent, especially “Paheli” song by Raghav Chaitanya. Kudos to him for singing such beautiful songs. His another song, “Ek Tukda Dhoop” from the movie, “Thappad” is my favourite number. What a soulful voice!

In the current scenario of web series, where violent and A rated series are being shown, this series comes as a fresh breeze. It proves that even a simple story can be turned into an epic with remarkable direction and perfect acting. This series was a motivation for me to get up at 5am daily. I would get up early, watch one episode and then start my exercise. I was so sad when I reached the 8th episode. I wish the series had more episodes.

Clean, honest and a ground-breaking series like Panchayat should be made more often. This series has made a prominent place in my heart, and I immensely enjoyed it. Waiting for the next season now!
