My first experience of watching Marathi Play

When I came to Pune the first thought that excited me was of watching Marathi plays. Last year due to Corona, we couldn’t make it but this year when theatres started we grabbed the chance. I saw two Marathi plays “Amne Samne” and “Tu mhanshil Tasa” in the last two weekends.

Amne Samne: I personally liked the story of this play. The story revolves around two couples from different generations staying next door. A very humorous and entertaining play I must say! There are some emotional scenes in the second half but they are appealing. The high point of this drama is its execution. The way in which first and then second half is presented is totally dramatic. All the actors have given brilliant performance but Leena Bhagwat steals the show by her phenomenal acting. Mangesh Kadam and Leena Bhagwat make a picture-perfect pair. Madhura Deshpande and Rohan Gujar are excellent in their roles. Immaculate direction and fresh story which is relevant to the couples of old and present generation as well. A perfect combination of drama, fun and emotions.

Tu Mhanshil Tasa: The drama centers on a newly married couple with diverse nature and the day to day situations coming in their life.  What happens when their office and personal life gets mixed up and what problems arise in these circumstances. Ultimately the end has to be sweet and satisfactory as it happens in everyone’s life. Apart from the one-liners, I enjoyed the setting of this play. It’s highly commendable, how the team changes the set of home into office very swiftly, that too in front of the audience, with lights on. Sankarshan karhade, Bhakti Desai, Amol Kulkarni and Priya Karkamkar have given scintillating performance. Even the small punches used in between are outstanding.  The viewers just go crazy on the hilarious dialogues. Sankarshan karhade’s writing and Prasad Oak’s direction together make this play a blockbuster.

My experience:

Both the plays were mind blowing. The experience of watching the actors performing live on stage, itself is so delightful. They fit into their respective roles so effortlessly.  I had watched them before on television in some or the other serials. But I feel one cannot assess the level of their talent from their work on television. They are far better in stature than their roles in serials.  It requires so much of hard work and precision to be on stage and perform in front of so many people. Their acting, dialogue delivery, expressions, confidence, everything is seamless.

What I enjoyed the most is their interaction with the audience amidst the play. They are so adept in their roles that it’s impossible for them to fumble in between the play. How many times they must have rehearsed their lines to get this perfection. The coordination amongst the actors is extraordinary. No one overpowers the other. Each actor with his/her unique style leaves an impression on the audience. The way they perform is such that you cannot stop yourself from clapping in between. I loved the way how the dedicated audience applauded their work by giving them standing ovation in the end. Even senior citizens were standing for them. True gesture of love and respect for the artists!

I have decided that I am going to watch as many plays as possible till I stay here because this experience is something I will cherish for the rest of my life. I was amazed to know that the team of “Tu Mhanshil Tasa”was heading for the next performance within an hour after lunch. Performing two shows in a day at different places with the same zeal is really incredible. How passionate they must be towards their work. One thing I got to learn from these artists is, when passion becomes profession, nothing seems to be difficult.
