Movie review – “Vaalvi”

“Vaalvi,” is a Marathi-language dark comedy-thriller movie that runs for just 1 hour and 46 minutes. From the very beginning, the creators wasted no time diving into the plot, introducing the characters, and establishing the central conflict that exists among them. Due to its low budget, the director wisely avoided elaborate sets, songs, and outdoor locations. Instead, the movie primarily focuses on a simple house, a car, and a building, allowing the story and characters to take center stage. The movie keeps you glued to your seat with a combination of suspense and laughter.  Paresh Mokashi has once again enthralled the audience with his impeccable direction. Known for his brilliant movies like “Harishchandrachi Factroy”, “Elizabeth Ekadashi,” and “Chi Va Chi Sau Ka”, Mokashi has a knack for storytelling that captivates viewers. He skillfully infuses humor even in the most intense situations.

In this movie, there are four main characters, and the entire plot revolves around the extreme situations they go through. Mokashi skillfully weaves their narratives together, creating a compelling and engaging cinematic experience. The movie starts off mysteriously, but it’s in the second half where it truly shines. It offers a perfect mix of tension, dark comedy, and suspense. Even the flash back scenes are created intensely. The true heart of the movie lies in the exceptional performances delivered by the talented actors. With each passing minute, it’s impossible to anticipate what will happen next, adding to the overall excitement.  “Vaalvi” is not intentionally crafted as a comedy film, but rather, the situations within the movie naturally generate a sense of humor. The dialogues and background music in the movie add an extra layer of flavor to the movie.

“Vaalvi” is “termite” in Marathi.  The film is truly beyond imagination and will mesmerize you, leaving you eager to watch it repeatedly. The movie deserves to be among the top movies of the year. It offers a refreshing and entertaining experience, different from the usual ones. Packed with thrilling twists, hilarious moments, and realistic performances, it keeps you involved throughout.
