Movie review: “Ahaan”

Ahaan is a sweet, warm film that explores a sensitive topic. The movie is about a 25-year-old happy-go-lucky guy named Ahaan, who has Down Syndrome and wants a normal, independent life. Another character is Ozzy, a man in his 40s with OCD, who has problems with his wife. Initially, Ozzy dislikes Ahaan. Later on, he becomes friends with him for selfish reasons. Over time, they form a strong emotional bond and help each other.

Writer-director Nikhil Pherwani tells the story really well, giving an encouraging message that inspires the audience. What makes the movie special is that it features “Abuli Mamaji,” an actor with Down Syndrome, playing the lead role. This makes “Ahaan” the first Hindi feature film in India to cast a person with Down Syndrome in the main role. The film is really sweet and touching. Even though it deals with a sensitive topic, it’s well-crafted and has a good sense of humor. ‘Ahaan’ is available on Netflix. Give it a watch!
