A short trip to Amritsar

Amritsar is a city in the northern Indian state of Punjab, known for its rich culture and history. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Amritsar with my family, and it was an unforgettable experience. We reached there in the evening, and after rest, we were ready to explore the city.

The next day, we had a breakfast of gobi paratha which was a delightful start to our day. For lunch, we had paneer bhurji and paratha, which was mouth-watering. After lunch, we headed to the Atari border to witness the Beating Retreat ceremony. It is a daily military practice where the Indian and Pakistani soldiers lower their flags and close the border for the night. The ceremony is a symbol of unity and brotherhood between the two nations, and it was a great experience to witness the enthusiasm of the crowd.

Later in the day, we visited the Golden Temple, which is one of the most revered sites for the Sikh community. It is a beautiful temple made of gold and marble and is surrounded by an artificial lake. The queue for the darshan was long, so we walked around the temple’s periphery and tasted the delicious kadha prasad. Walking down the market was a fantastic experience. We explored the narrow lanes with phulkari dupatta shops, chat corners, and Amritsari jutti shops.
while returning, we visited Bharwan’s Dhaba, known for its authentic Punjabi dishes. It was established in 1912. We had aloo kulcha and paneer kulcha with chana, and lassi. The lassi was refreshing. Four of us shared two plates and it was quite filling. The matka kulfi was the perfect dessert to end our meal.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t visit Jallianwala Bagh this time, but we plan to see it on our next trip. Overall, it was a short but memorable trip. The hospitality of the locals, the delicious food, and the city’s rich cultural heritage made it a trip to remember.
