3 books of Sudha Murthy you will love to read

Yesterday, I decided to spend my Sunday by staying away from mobile as much as possible. I wanted to binge read so that I do not go back to my phone. I was looking for some engrossing but simple books. Finally, I decided to read Sudha Murty’s books which my daughter had got for me from a book fair. Why I love Sudha Murty’s books because from her every book you get to learn a life lesson. Her books are very simple, easy to read, realistic and quite relatable. Whenever I visit any book shop I always search for her books especially for my children. Yesterday morning, I began with Sudha Murty’s “Three thousand stitches followed by “Wise and otherwise”, and then “The daughter from a wishing tree”. It was indeed a great experience reading all three books by one author. It gave a feeling of spending one full day with the author herself.

“Three thousand stitches”

This book is a compilation of 11 short stories from the real life experiences of Sudha Murty. All the stories are beautifully woven. The first story is “three thousand stiches”. It is about the sufferings of devadasis and how Sudha Murty helped them to lead a better life. In some stories you will come to know about the struggle she had to face being the only female student in her college. Against all odds she pursued an engineering degree and her parents supported her firmly. She also mentioned about her father’s good deeds in this book. There are other stories related to Indian cinema, vegetables, predispositions, victories and everyday struggles. The book is a short read and can be easily finished in one sitting. My take away from this book is the line.  “Confidence doesn’t mean that everything will go our way. It simply gives the ability to accept failures that we will inevitably meet on our path and more forward with hope.”

“Wise and otherwise”

This book is a collection of 51 short stories and each story is worth reading. The book is a very light read but each story will make an impact on you. If you are interested in stories related to human behavior, experiences and social issues then you should definitely read this book. Sudha Murty masters the art of captivating her readers by sharing her work life and travel experiences in an engaging way. All the stories have simple plots but every story will give you something. You can complete this book in one go. “If you try to please everyone, you will please no one. It is impossible to lead your life for others’ happiness.” Loved the key message from this book!

“The daughter from a wishing tree”

I never thought I would be able to complete this book after reading the title. I thought this book is for children but then I realized, it can be read by anyone.  If you want to explore more about Indian mythology, then this book is a good choice. The book generated my interest in reading more about ancient mythology. I was unaware of many tales shared in this book. The book celebrates women power presenting 24 unique tales of brave women in mythology. A very good book for children to make them aware about Indian mythology in a simplistic way.
